Late summer in NYC is the perfect time to get out of the city, and there is no better way to beat the heat than hopping on the LIRR and heading east to Montauk. A beach idyll at the very tip of Long Island, Montauk, known to locals as “The End,” is a small surfing village just outside of the luxurious Hamptons. Don’t get me wrong, Montauk can be just as fabulous and glitzy, but has a more laid-back persona. Think Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf in a flower crown sitting around a beach bonfire. With top-ranked beaches and 5-star restaurants, your trip won’t be anything short of fabulous. Here’s a list of my must-visit, not-to-be-missed, most favorite faves:
Crows Nest Restaurant
○ This local organic eatery does not take reservations, so I suggest going no later than 6:30pm to beat the crowds. Have dinner in their bohemian dining room, and enjoy a beautiful view of the Long Island sound. After dinner, ditch your shoes and walk down to their beach bar for a handcrafted cocktail on the sand while you take in that perfect sunset.
○ Surf Lodge Inn and Restaurant is an absolute must. Over the past few years it has served as Montauk’s premiere seen-and-be-seen destination. Featuring wonderful food and live music, it’s no wonder Surf Lodge is a celeb magnet—Jimmy Buffet, Scarlett Johannsen and James Franco have all been spotted there. Stop in for dinner on Sunday, and enjoy an early concert before hopping the LIRR back to the reality of city living.
Hither Hills Beach
○ Hither Hills state park runs along the south side of Montauk between the town of Amagansett and the eastern point of Montauk. The park is perfect for sport fishing on the shore, camping, hiking, and most of all, lazing around on its pristine un-spoiled beaches. Bring your towel for a day of sunning, or grab some logs to build a sunset campfire (don’t forget the graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows!)
“There is nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away…” – Sarah Kay

This week kicks off Caché’s Annual Dress Event! To celebrate, we sat down with Caché’s Day Dress Buyer, Flor Garcia, to get the latest in day and cocktail dress trends. Get her dish below on the season’s newest collection, her role at Caché and some of her favorite dresses for Fall.
What are your favorite aspects about the September Collection?
“My favorite aspect of the September collection is that it’s our intro to “true Fall”. Within the assortment you’ll find great transitional pieces, in a fall palette that includes deep purples, and darker shades of red. Key pieces such as outerwear jackets are introduced, our full breadth of core leggings come in with faux leather and hardware details that can be worn back to great novelty tops. Finally, the dress assortment is rich in color and print, in addition to the add on of more structured styles that show on trend fabric mixing.”
What are some of the details that stand out in this Collection?
“Faux leather details along with novelty fabric mixing, that includes foiled fabrics, meshes, and laces. Beautiful hardware such as studs and zips really stand out in this assortment as well.”
What do you like best about your role?
“I truly love working with design and finding the most balanced and best looking assortment of dresses we can possibly put in our stores.”
How did you decide what dresses would work best for this season?
“Seasonally right color, prints, and novelty details were key characteristics I was looking for as I chose the assortment of September day dresses. I wanted to ensure that stores had a variety of looks and silhouttes as they transition from summer to fall.”
What is Trending this month when it comes to shopping dresses?
“Mixing of fabrics is bigger than ever. Whether it’s print on texture, faux leather details on solids or color on color blocking with contrast piping. Lace and metallic are still popular, and two piece dress looks are really trending. Anything, that makes a simple silhouette feel updated and new is big across all departments, not just dresses. Customers are looking for their new basics, and how to update their wardrobes.”
